How to Choose the Right SEO Company

Choose SEO Company
When it comes to creating a strong Internet presence, it is essential to do more than just create an attractive, user-friendly website. After all, it doesn’t matter how great your website looks or how easy it is to navigate if no one can ever find it! This is where a search engine optimization, or SEO, company comes in. Unfortunately, with so many different SEO companies to select from, choosing the right one can be an overwhelming experience. By keeping a few things in mind, however, you will be certain to choose the right SEO company for you.

Get Recommendations

Perhaps the best way to narrow down the pool of potential SEO companies is to ask friends, business partners and other professional connections to provide recommendations. If you don’t personally know anyone who has used the services of an SEO company, ask on reputable Web master forums to get an idea of which companies have established a solid reputation in the industry.

Avoid Companies that Use High Pressure Sales Tactics

High pressure sales tactics are not appropriate in the search engine optimization business. High pressure sales tactics include:

  • Pressuring you to make a decision right now so you don’t “miss out” on a “special deal”
  • Sending an unsolicited e-mail
  • Spamming your website’s visitor feedback form

Consider a Local Company

If you have never dealt with an SEO company before or if you don’t know much about the process of optimization, you might want to consider hiring a local company. This way, you can meet face to face with the provider in order to discuss the company’s evaluation and recommendations for optimizing your site. As an added bonus, working with a smaller, local company is often less costly than working with large, established company.

Expect to Pay a Reasonable Price

Even when selecting a smaller company, you should still expect to pay a reasonable price for the services you are receiving. Therefore, if a company offers to optimize your site for an extremely low price, keep in mind that you will get what you pay for. At the same time, if you are focusing on the local level or a niche with less competitive terms, you shouldn’t have to pay premium price for the services.

Google Isn’t Everything

While every business owner wants to achieve a top ranking in Google, it is important to remember that a top-rated SEO company isn’t necessarily the best one to choose. While it may seem logical that a top-ranked SEO company will be able to achieve the same results for your website, this isn’t necessarily the case. In reality, the techniques used to get one page at the top of the Google rankings won’t necessarily work for your page. Therefore, while conducting a Google search is a good start, you should never rely on these results to confirm the quality of the company’s techniques. Rather, depend more on Google to look up customer reviews of the company instead of rankings.

Ask for a Plan

A reputable SEO company will have a plan for your site and will be able to provide you the details for it. Therefore, you should only choose a company that has a plan that its representative can clearly explain to you. If the company can’t explain the process in a way that you can understand, move on to a different provider. Furthermore, stay clear of those companies that use black hat methods, automated submission software or backlinks that come from link farms.

Ask for Examples

To help judge the quality of work the company provides, you should ask to see examples of projects the company has completed. In addition to showing you some of the sites the company has worked on, its representative should also be able to discuss the tactics that were used to achieve the rankings.

Check Referrals

An established SEO company should be able to provide you with the names and contact information of several satisfied customers. Don’t just take the company representative’s word for it, though. Rather, pick up the phone and call those clients to learn more about the quality of the services provided.

Search Engine Submission is Unnecessary

Some SEO providers will make a big deal out of the fact that they will submit your site to search engines. The reality is that search engine submission is completely unnecessary. Therefore, if the company you are considering is making a big deal out of the fact that it will submit your site to the search engines, turn your attention toward a different company.

Successful Optimization Takes Time

Optimizing a website takes time. While there are unscrupulous methods that can be used to achieve temporarily high rankings, these rankings will not last over the long term. In addition, depending on the type of methods that are used, your site could potentially be banned from the search engine directory. Therefore, you should never go with a company that promises top results in a short period of time.

Require Reports

The only way to truly measure the success of an SEO plan is to generate reports. Therefore, the company you are considering should be able to clearly explain how it will measure progress and should furnish you with periodic progress reports.

Post-Optimization Maintenance Options

A reputable SEO company will also offer maintenance services after your site has been optimized. With these post-optimization services, your site will remain at the top of the rankings after it has been pushed upward.
